Dear UT Dallas Community,
With little rain and temperatures over 100 degrees for multiple days, drought conditions in the DFW area have worsened. Dallas County, Collin County and multiple surrounding counties are now under a burn ban.
Because UT Dallas is located in both Dallas and Collin Counties, the entire campus must begin burn ban restrictions. Effective Friday, Aug. 18, open fires and fireworks/sparklers are not allowed on campus. In addition, any outdoor hot work must be protected by fire extinguishers and water sources. Outdoor cooking can still occur in fully enclosed barbeque pits only if they are close to a water hose and/or protected with a fire extinguisher. Great caution should also be utilized with operating motorized equipment off road; the heat from the motor can easily ignite vegetation in extremely dry conditions.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep our camps safe. Please take the time to review our burn ban safety tips and feel free to direct any questions regarding burn bans or fire safety to me or safety@utdallas.edu.
Thank you,
